Maryland softball splits doubleheader against Rutgers

Maryland softball (15-23) split its doubleheader confronting Rutgers (8-30) on Friday.

In game 1, the Terps fell short iii-1. Senior pitcher Jennifer Brann recorded her sixth loss of the season only allowing two hits in a complete game. Maryland'south bats struggled to support Brann in the game one loss.

Sophomore left fielder Campbell Kline knocked a homer over the right field argue in the fourth inning, the sole run for the Terps. The team's only other hitting came from senior right fielder JoJo McRae. Sophomore bullpen Ashley Hitchcock stymied Maryland's lineup throughout with v strikeouts.

In the sixth inning, graduate student brusk finish Kiana Workman tied the game at 1 with a home run to right center field. The Crimson Knights took their beginning lead of the game as graduate heart fielder Hailey Hoklotubbe scored after sophomore catcher Kiersten Withstandley was striking by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Adding another insurance run, graduate student left fielder Anyssa Iliopoulos hitting a sacrifice fly to center fielder, which allowed sophomore tertiary baseman Payton Lincavage to cross home plate.

In game two, the Terps bounced back defeating Rutgers 5-0. Sophomore bullpen Courtney Wyche recorded the win with three strikeouts, 3 walks and only allowed iii hits.

In the starting time inning, freshman center fielder Jaeda McFarland scored off a sacrifice fly from freshman short stop Michaela Jones. The Terps tacked on four more than runs in the 3rd inning.

Jones hit a three run home run to increment Maryland'southward atomic number 82 to 4-0. Freshman left fielder Megan Mikami (ii-3) followed upwardly Jones' home run with her ain home run over the right field fence.

Rutgers' graduate student pitcher Izzy Berouty recorded the loss, as Maryland'due south bats jumped on her early with an explosive 3rd inning.

The Scarlet Knights' crime was pretty repose again with only a total of iii hits in the game. All three of the hits were singles, one each from graduate student first baseman Gabrielle Callaway, freshman designated player Leilani Chavez and freshman pinch hitter Kayla Bock.
